With apologies to 10CC ".... I don't like cricket...."

Who's looking forward to having another Queensland team to support? I enjoy T20 and although the whole experience has been soured a little by the Indian Premier League (IPL), I think this version could be interesting.
We know Aussies are good at organising and holding tournaments.
If this works off the bat (no pun intended), then I think we may see an expansion throughout the region - not just Australia.
I've got a feeling the editor at large over at SportingSportOpinions will have some thoughts to share. Be sure to visit and be enlightened.

Got Goths!

Elliot and Callista are competing (as models) in the International Hair-dressing Show this evening. We've got a photo after make up rehearsals yesterday afternoon.
UPDATE: Very proud to report that the team came in a very close 2nd. (You could say they missed out by a hair!) - see what I did there.
They whole team looked fantastic. The costumes were great. The routine went off without a hitch! Well done.

NoMovember 2011

I said, "...should I do this again since I was so successful last year?"

And my wonderful Wife said... "NO!"

I don't understand. I went through all the stages - cat weasel - cookie duster - the trucker.

It just didn't take with those who count the most so maybe we'll try again in 2012?

Makes sure you visit and support your Bros with Mo's this year.

Top Quatorze

Bad luck to Le Blue for just missing out on winning the RWC 2011. (And from most objective accounts they were unlucky!)
So now its time to move onto the Top 14 French Competition. Hopefully I'll get to see my beloved Stade Francis play later in the year.

What've We Been Playin'?

I hadn't played a Halo game all the way through since the release of the original one. (Gee, that was a long time ago.) I always found that I'd get a bit motion sick playing the subsequent installments, but this time 'round I stuck with it and I'm glad I did.
The game is visually stunning with a fantastic soundtrack. It was very easy to get immersed in the "experience" and I have to admit to being consumed with progressing through the chapters for a couple of weeks there. I found the controls easy to understand (but not always easy to operate - I just wasn't always quick enough to hit the right button). Underpinning the whole thing was an excellent story line. The cut-scenes were meshed into the game play seamlessly. This aspect was so enjoyable, I'd have been happy to just watch someone else play and enjoy the story unfold. It's no wonder that video gaming is over taking motion pictures and television in the art of story telling.

What've We Been Watchn'?

Finally got a chance to watch Tron Legacy on MyStar the other night. Maybe just like me, you have fond memories of the original. It was a warm summer in Perth. School had finished, the holidays had started and Christmas was just around the corner. I'd only heard about this "ace" movie from some of the computer geeks at the time and they raved about it.
Its funny how our knowledge of technology (computers and their applications) has advanced so much since 1982. The original would have to be one of my favourite movies and so I was really looking forward to this installment.
Unfortunately, I watched it after a big day at work - yes it was a Sunday, but you know how it is... (plus I'd actually watched the rugby semi-final with Mike along with a couple of beverages late in the afternoon beforehand). Anyway, I only managed to watch half of it and.... it was really boring; I just couldn't get into it. At the time I didn't know if I'd bother watching the rest, but a couple of days later I did and... I'm happy to say I really enjoyed the second half. Maybe I'll have to watch it all again when I'm not tired and write a proper review.

And how's this going to change the tempreture?

Well done wonkas! This is how you kill a countrys economy.

UPDATE: Fools dancing on their own graves! These mugs want to show some "real" courage and leadership for Australia? Call an election!

Gold Teeth?

So you know how actors/singers seem to always know what's best for us little people cause they're rich & famous right? Well why is it if they're so smart or smarter that us, do they always do things like this?
(By the way, I think this is a dumb protest carried out by useless, lazy, smelly hippies anyway - but you've gotta love the hypocrisy.)

Wallabies Vs Springboks

Big game Sunday. Can't believe the cheat is reffing. Apparently he's admitted to screwing the Aussies over in their loss to Ireland.... We'll see how it pans out.

UPDATE: So the boys got up. The ref was pathetic. And there's a lot of comment back peddling going on by the saffas and kiwis.

Grand Final 2011

Enjoyed a great GF (late) lunch at the Drewit's place yesterday. Mick fired up the barbie. We enjoyed a couple of refreshments. The families cranked up Rock Band on the wii. And the NRL was on for the last time in 2011.
Pretty good game. Looked like it was going to get pretty close there for a while, but (although I don't like them), the better team won.
Mick and I didn't agree on that point, but we did agree that this guy is definitely a cheat. Who knew the Wallabies could get penalised for "walking a scrum around"...? I think he's just making it up as he goes along.

Weekend Finals

An insightful take on this weekends footy finals from Sporting Sport Opinions.
UPDATE; Very high suck-factor involved in the Sea Eagles win over the Broncos!
UPDATE II; This doesn't help.

Cheat?

So yes. I was a bit wild about the Wallabies vs Ireland game on Saturday night. Is it just me or is this whole tournament all about making an insignificant country with low self esteem feel better about itself? This same country that dominates world rankings until the World Cup rolls around every four years where it then makes an early exit. To some, (especially those in this particular country), this situation is an injustice because the tournament is judged in isolation and the victor gets to carry the tag of "World Champions" for the following four years. To which I say tough. Several years ago the IRB had the chance to award the hosting rights to an emerging nation. There were several contenders which would've promoted the game to a new and wider audience. However, in its wisdom, the governing body chose to go with a country that couldn't even co-host the event in 2003. So; host the event with all the home ground advantage that comes with it - check. Then make it as hard as possible for your fiercest rival to compete. Instruct those referring their games to make the complicated laws and interpretations even more inconsistent to manufacture results that make the road to the final even harder for the rival. I believe this is what we saw on Saturday night. I believe what we saw was cheating in progress before our very eyes. I believe this bloke is a cheat! Can you guess where he hails from?
UPDATE; Why couldn't have Tim Horan and the other Aussie commentators picked up on this earlier? Just getting a little sick of the "over" PC approach these guys are taking. Can you believe this douche bag ref even had the hide to ask one of the Wallabies if he's a doctor or a lawyer when explaining a controversial call. What a wonka!
UPDATE II; And this is why you don't award high profile events to third world countries, (or at least ones with third world attitudes!)

"...and a milkshake.... THICK!"

Time to wind the clock back a bit here to the late 1970’s. It was a balmy summer’s evening, just on dusk and Dad, Tracy and I were going to grab some diner from the local Hungry Jacks drive-through. Now this was a pretty big deal at the time because, unlike today, having fast food for a meal was a real treat – getting it from a drive through…. unheard of! Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had take away from Chicken Treat, Red Bull (real name of a franchise) and the Mexican Cantina before too. But Hungry Jacks; well, Hungry Jacks was always the bench mark; the flash place.
So we set off in the blue Toyota Corona station-wagon all excited about the adventure and planning out our order so we’d be ready when we got up to the “speaker-box”.
The real knack of the whole ordering experience at the drive-through was to know the menu and not get flustered. You’ve got to know your Whoopers from your Big Macs, your Yumbos from your Quarter Pounders. We ended up ordering a “couple of Double Decker Burgers and a Milkshake….thick!” There was quite a bit of a pause before we were waved through but we did end up getting a couple of drinks and meals (and glares) at the other end. Tracy and I suggested Dad needed a bit more practice, but we’d be happy to accompany him again.

What've We Been Watchn'?

Look, we haven't actually watched this movie but Elliot and I watched the review by Daniel Tosh and we're still not sure if this is an actual movie. Click the link and watch Daniel's "shorter" review. Looks like a classic either way.

What've We Been Watchn'?

This is the second part to a Spanish movie we watched on the World Movies Network. Basically there's an apartment building that gets completely sealed up by "the authorities" because of the tenants having gone ape-shit crazy and displaying rabbi-like symptoms. It's filmed in a "Blair Witch" style with an unsuspecting television crew getting accidentally caught up in the mayhem when they attend a fire with the fire brigade (whom they're supposed to be filming a doco on). Turns out that the problem all stems back to a possessed girl that secretly lived on the top floor of the buiIding. She truly has the negative Midas touch - everything she touches (or bites) turns to shite. Nothing ends well for any of the protagonists.
In this second installment we pick up the story with a medical/SWAT team going in to get a blood sample from the girl to develop an antidote. The residents are still wild and waste no time in attacking the team. After one attack the Doctor leading them reveals that he's actually a priest. He discloses that the patient zero was possessed by the devil and the Vatican sent him to save mankind. A good one to watch with company so you can pretend to be brave and laugh (nervously) through the scary bits.

What Not to Take to the World Cup

From Jim Tucker & Iain Payten of News Limited Newspapers;
Car parts top the list of contraband items at the Rugby World Cup
MORE than a million tickets have been sold to the World Cup extravaganza and the rugby police will be out in force at stadiums to ban anyone bearing a vuvuzela, skateboard, gang patches, flags with sticks longer than 80cm or...car parts.
That's right. Forget trying to bring a car bonnet or battery into Auckland's Eden Park. Don't try bringing in a cold burger from McDonald's either.
The list of prohibited items for the tournament's 12 stadia runs to 28 categories as tournament organisers try to maximise the enjoyment of fans.
World Cup organisers are obsessed by protecting their sponsors so ambush marketing is a big no-no.
In theory, if a group of 30 Wallabies fans all arrive at Sunday's clash against Italy at Auckland's North Harbour Stadium wearing a variety of gold jersies, inadvertently carrying Qantas logos, they could be asked to remove them as Emirates is the official Cup airline.
The tournament doesn't own the crowd so we don't think it will reach that silly stage.

Sometimes you just have to fall asleep under the coffee table...

Can you guess what happened to John...?

It Ain't No Stonehenge... but the Druids Have Moved In!

Did I say Druids...? I meant the Drewitts. New address on Peggy Close is open for business and looking good!
Sure there's a few sore muscles and a couple of bruises from the big day last Saturday...(curse you heavy slate pool table!), but kicking back and watching Locky's last round game on one of the new Sony Bravias was worth it.

Rugby World Cup 2011

So the tornement is just around the corner. Everyone agrees it's going to be massive. There's characters aplenty and none bigger than the Springboks coach Peter de Villiers.

The Fro Bro!

He nailed a 40m try after palming off their number 6 and out-running two of their fastest backs! Australia 25 - NZ 20. Now for the World Cup starting next week - can't wait!

Radike Samo!

How good's this guy? 35 years old. Hasn't played for the Wallabies since 2004. Told he was "too old" by other Super 15 teams, but Ewen McKenzie saw something at the start of the season and took him on. What's he achieved? Well how about the Super 15 title for the mighty Queensland Reds! He was included in the Wallabies training squad. Played a couple of tests off the bench and now gets his first start in over 6 years! Well done that man. Big test this weekend though - huge! It's the number one team in the world - the All Blacks. I've no doubt he'll serve up the same stuff that's reignited his career this season and there's every chance the Wallabies will be lifting the Tri Nations trophy for the first time in 10 years this Saturday night. You can see by the adjoining photo that he's modeled his current hair style on one I used to sport!

How Do You Know the Meeting's Over....?

Well it's usually after someone at the table breaks wind!
The scenario; long day in the Qld Govt challet at the 2011 Bundaberg Air Show. Meeting with Government stakeholders and potential investors. Conversations are going well. Alliances are being forged. Interest is being peaked. And then it happens.... Someone serves up the ole' one cheek sneek and everyone scatters!

Property Management

So I go to take some photos of a damaged property; Apparently tenants think its a good idea to set fire to the garage occasionally.

Anyways, whilst driving to the site, I happen upon a group of police waiting by the side of the road probably 500m from my destination. It was funny because I thought to myself, "what are these tenants up to now! ha ha" and I kept heading to my destination. Before I arrived I could see people running around the front of the property, but I didn't think anything of it. I pulled up out front and as I was about to go 'round to take photos - the neighbour called out to me, "mate! don't go in there... there's a bloke releasing a gas bottle in the building and he's threatening to blow the place up! Get out of here!"
Ah...that's what the police are doing...

What've We Been Watchn'?

This movie was on one of the free to air channels recently and we really enjoyed it. (So much so, that Callista bought a copy for $9.99 at Target.) I never bothered to see it at the cinema and had no intention of renting it on DVD. Most movies I watch nowadays is whatever comes up on the Movie Network channels. It's pretty silly but there's a series of funny moments in just about every scene that makes it worth watching again.
Chaka from the TV Show

I think our favourite character would have to be Chaka, mainly because of his "demonstrative dance" to the Andrews Sisters classic; "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".

Every family has a character like this guy... who's yours? Feel free to list them in comments.

Wallabies Got Up

So I didn't get up in the middle of the night to watch the Springboks host the Wallabies in Durban. However the Wallabies got up to win 14-9 anyway.
I watched the replay Sunday morning and was pleased with the better attitude and better commitment from the Aussies. Sure, there were things that could've been done better with some unfortunate handling errors and wasted opportunities, but you have to remember that they flew straight to South Africa only hours after a tough game against the All Blacks in Auckland. Had their luggage lost on the way. Had to front up to a full strength Springboks team. And play at one of the most hostile venues for any visiting team. (They also had to overcome one of the worst refereeing performances at international level I've seen in a long time - hang your head in shame Mr.Lawrence from NZ!)
(Image courtesy of the Courier Mail)
Lasting memory will be this "match turning" tackle made by Anthony Faingaa. Down 9-8, Anthony's hit turned over possesion and resulted in a penalty to the Wallabies (11-9). It was a momentum shifter for sure. The Wallabies earnt another penalty through some excellent scrum work (14-9) and then had to hold off an intense Springbok raid on their line for the final minutes. I'm sure the lads will be glad for the week off and enjoy watching the Springboks and All Blacks going toe to toe next weekend. Next game will be Saturday the 27th of August at Brisbane. Looking forward to it big time.

The Old Blog

Back in the day I started writing funny things on this blog; http://youservebundyhereright.blogspot.com/ .
I thought I'd crank it up again, but after such a long break, I've forgotten the password... urgh! Anyway, now I've got this one. If you have time, take a look and let me know what you think.

2011 Cane2Coral

Cranked it up for the 8km Cane2Coral run yesterday morning. Beautiful day and great atmosphere. Saddend that there was an actual fatality - 61 year old gent running the 15km event suffered a heart attack 7kms from the finish.
Where'd I finish? I came in 346th (out of 2900) and 31st in my division (out of 130).

Big Gun

So proud. EJ selected to compete in shooting and rifle drill competition in Brisbane. (I think he just likes the food at Enoggera!)

The Unsinkable Pa!

He's survived the school of hard knocks. He's flown Corsairs. He's commanded submarines. He's beaten every enemy. Cancer.... take your best shot! You got nothing!
